Bio
Urhixidur is an electroacoustic experimental/ambient music project of Sami Mikkola, based in Helsinki, Finland.
Urhixidur‘s music is atmospheric and adventurous, getting influence from ambient and experimental artists like Biosphere, Ann Annie, Stars Of The Lid, Aphex Twin, Hainbach, etc.
First Urhixidur album Test Flight was released 2015.
Urhixidur‘s latest album Drifting is a collection of ambient/experimental songs made with small modular synthesizer set-up.
Sami’s other electronic music projects are experimental electronic music duo Sado & Maso (with Finnish experimental electronic music artist Mikko Kataja), downtempo/electronica influenced Coneville and techno influenced Piip. In January 2023 Urhixidur‘s remix of Germany based experimental project mockART‘s song The Takeover was released and it is also on the album Views | Remixed. Urhixidur also remixed mockaART’s song La Bête Noire rôde dans la ville.
Before Urhixidur and other electronic music projects Sami used to play bass in various Finnish rock bands ( Kelpo Pojat, Rehtorit, Pojat, Pahat agentit, Kiiva, etc.) and also played couple of tours across Europe with the legendary humppa-band Eläkeläiset. As Rehtori Mikkola, Sami still occasionally releases punk/rock music.
Sami also does sound design for science centre exhibitions and planetarium shows.
